Chris Emerson
Violin and Viola Teacher
Originally from Australia, Chris moved to the UK in 1999. He studied viola at the Australian Institute of Music, where he gained a Bachelor of Music performance with 1st class honours.
Chris started playing the violin at age 4, going on to progress to the viola at the age of 17. He gained a position as a member of the Hallé Orchestra's viola section in 2000, working under the directorship of Sir Mark Elder for 22 years. This takes him regularly all over the UK, performing up to 180 concerts a year.
As well as performing with the Hallé, he is involved with their education department where he has been a key player in delivering schemes which include working with children in schools, working with children with special educational needs and disabilities, and working with people living with dementia.
Chris has an interest in various kinds of music, and along side playing viola and violin Chris also plays viola da gamba and piano for his own enjoyment. He regularly plays chamber music concerts.
Chris has taught both violin and viola throughout his career, and enjoys inspiring people of all ages to improve their musical understanding and further their technique and performance skills.
